Investigations on the Planting Regions of Main Medicinal Dendrobium Species in Yunnan and Preliminary Evaluation on Their Suitability

The investigation,survey and evaluation on the planting regions and the current prodcution status of main medicinal Dendrobium plants in Yunnan Province were carried out.The results showed that the natural distribution of Dendrobium plants looked like L in shape on map in Yunnnan and the planting regions were located in the south part below N 25° in altitude which could be divided into the southwest,the south and the southeast planting areas.Based on the climatic suitability analysis,the counties within the planting areas could be regionalized into the most suitable areas,the suitable areas and the sub-suitable areas.There were more than 80 enterprises undertaking the cultivation of medicinal Dendrobium Plants(mainly D.candidum Wall.,D.devonianum Paxt.,D.fimbriatum Hook.,D.chrysotoxum Lindl.and D.nobile Lindl.).The artificial facility cultivation was a dominant model for Dendrobium planting,while cultivation by simulating wild Dendrobium habitation under forests was adopted in some areas.The best culture matrices of seedling bed were wood sawdust or smashed tree bark pieces.The Dendrobium seedlings used were mostly from tissue culture.The ordinary diseases found were Dendrobium anthracnose,black spot and blight.Both disease and insect attacks were not severe,but snails often caused some damages on the plants in somewhere.The primary processing of Dendrobium was still in a level of small scale.
