Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of hippocampal nuclear factor-kappaB(NF-KB)expression in rats with pentylenetetrazol(PTZ)-kindked epilepsy to find its pathogenesis. Methods Status epilepticus(SE)was induced by PTZ intraperitoneal injection to observe rat ethological changes, and immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)were used to determine hippocampal NC-KB expression of SE rats and control group at hours 1,6,24,72,respectively.Results In SE group, the hippocampal NF-KB expression began to increase after 6 hours, reaching the highest at hour 24(P0.05),and began to decrease at hour 72,but higher than normal control group. Conclusion NF-KB nuclear translocation, namely hippocampal neuron activation,is the major mechanism of the formation of PTZ-kindled epileptic rats, involving in epilepsy.
