Analysis of cause and prevention for incision dehiscence after abdominal operation.

Objective To investigate the cause and discuss the prevention and treatment of incision dehiscence after abdominal operation.Methods The causes of incision dehiscence in 14 cases with dehiscence of abdominal incision were analyzed and rational preventive measures were suggested.In all 14 cases,the entire dehiscence were sutured in 9 cases,protected with abdominal strap and treated with dressing change in 2 cases;partial dehiscence were protected with abdominal strap in 2 cases and sutured in 1 case.Results In all 10 cases with second suture,the incision healed in 9 cases;incision dehiscence occurred again in 1 case 10 days after operation and healed through the application of abdominal strap and dressing change for 4 months;2 cases who had entire dehiscence but refused suture were treated with abdominal strap and dressing change,one was healed after 80 days treatment,the other one died of vital exhaustion since the patient refused treatment.2 cases with partial dehiscence were treated with abdominal strap treatment.Conclusion The dehiscence of abdominal incision was indirectly related with malnutrition,tissue malunion,unfit manipulation in operation,increased abdominal pressure and bad protection of incision.For the prevention of incision dehiscence,treatments should be considered including supplement of nutrition,prevention and treatment of complication,relaxation suture during the operation,and the protection of the incision after the operation.Once incision dehiscence occurs,sutura should be timely operated as long as condition is permitted,so as to avoid incisional hernia and postponed healing of incision.
