Abstract
The matrix modifying effect of potassium monohydrogen phosphate in the GFAAS determination of trace amounts of cadmium was studied and reported in this paper. It was found that by the addition of K 2HPO 4, the ashing temperature was elevated remarkably, and the sensitivity of the GFAAS determination of cadmium was also increased. Based on these experimental results, a direct GFAAS method for the determination of trace amounts of cadmium using K 2HPO 4 as matrix modifier was proposed and has been applied to the determination of cadmium in rock, soil and river sediment samples.
