Explanation of Speech Differences and Pragmatic Failure in the Eastern and Western Inter-culture Communication Based on "Maxims of Politeness"

Points out that although Leech's Maxims of Politeness are common in different cultures,people from different cultural background differ in abiding by the maxims and in explaining factors influencing this abidance.A research is conducted on these differences,and it is pointed out that a person with a good command of the language does not surely possess a strong ability of using the language from the angle of pragmatics,and that a person with profound knowledge of the language does not certainly succeed in inter-cultural communication.Therefore,in inter-cultural communication,one should pay much attention to the differences in customs and achieve success in the communication between cultures,which share few similarities.
