Abstract
Aimed at a group of high vanadium high-speed steels with different composition, the effects of silicon content (0.31%~5.03%,mass fraction) on carbides were studied. The results show that the carbides are mainly granular VC and isolated carbides with molybdenum or chromium in high vanadium high-speed steel with low silicon content. The like-flower carbides starts to occur and grow up with the increase of silicon content above 2.1%. Meanwhile, the isolated carbides with molybdenum or chromium decrease. By means of EPMA and XRD,it's known that the like-flower carbides are of VC type, and molybdenum and chromium elements mainly dissolves into vanadium carbides.
