Abstract
The American constitutionalism is an unprecedented institutional invention in human history.It is the institutional guarantee for the growth and prosperity of the United States.The American constitutionalism was born in specific historical circumstances.The main factors that ever influenced the American constitutionalism are the English common law tradition,the political heritage of the colonies,and thoughts from the Enlightenment.At the time the framers built a new political system,they absorbed the old traditions of their motherland,as well as new political thoughts,and the reflections on the colonies' history.All these elements make the United States take an unique development road which is much different from other nations.
