Abstract
PvSR6 ( Phaseolus vulgaris stress related) clone encoding a new member of the DnaJ like protein family has been isolated from a mercuric chloride treated bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.cv.Saxa) cDNA library.Northern blot analysis revealed that the transcripts of PvSR6 were at low levels in unstressed bean leaves,but the genes expression was strongly stimulated by heavy metals (Hg 2+ and Cd 2+ ),wounding,elevated temperature,ultraviolet irradiation and salicylic acid.These suggested that PvSR6 might have important roles in resistance to heavy metals and various environmental stresses by maintaining the structure and function of membranes and enzymes.
