Abstract

As an important part of plant ecology, the studying history of soil seed bank has been nearly one and a half centuries.Soil seed bank indicates the total amount of survived seeds in the soil and withering junk.Seed banks have different features in different vegetation types, habits and vegetation succession stages. The period of soil seed banks is one of the life history stages of plant population, which is called subpopulation stage. The characteristic of seed bank, relation between seed bank and corresponding vegetation, and the potential of seed bank in vegetation regeneration were summarize. The factors(include the characteristic of soil seed bank itself, habitat, different disturbing factors) which infect the potential role that a seed bank plays in vegetation regeneration were especially discussed. In the restoration and reclamation of vegetation, the study on the role of soil seed banks in restoration can provide important information scientific data for regional and local vegetation regeneration.
