Abstract

Benzyl p-hydroxybenzoate was prepared by phase transfer catalysis from p-hydroxybenzoic acid and benzyl chloride in the presence of TEBA.The influences of temperature, time, catalyst and the molar ratio of raw materials on the yield of the product were studied. The experimental result showed that the optimum conditions were as follows:reaction temperature 140℃,the catalyst 7.54mmol,reaction time 2.5h,the molar ratio of benzyl chloride to p-hydroxybenzoic acid 2.0∶1.The yield of the product could be up to 95.5% under optimum conditions.Melting point of the product was 109~111℃.IR and 1HNMR characterized the structure of the product.
