The use of affinis perfect impressions in fixed partial denture

Objectives The purpose of this study was to discuss and summarize the use of silicon rubber impression technique in fixed partial denture. Try to find a practical guide for clinical practice. Methods After tooth preparation, appropriate tray and custom made tray was prepared for the impression. Heavy-body silicon rubber impression material was mixed according to manufacturer's manual and was then put into the prepared tray. Before the impression taking, a plastic film was put to the tray to cover the impression material. After the preparation of the primary impression, all gingival undercuts in the impression were removed followed by pouring the light-body silicon rubber impression material to take the final impression. Results Among all the cases, exquisite tissue surface and clear marginal line were revealed in female and male dies. Perfect marginal fit was also shown between base crowns and shoulders in die and abutment teeth. Conclusion The use of the silicon rubber impression material can get high precision primary and final impression. It could provide better marginal fit, more precise fixed partial denture and better health status of marginal periodontal tissue.
