Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between HBV genotype and the mechanism of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Methods Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) were used to detect HBV genotypes in 56 patients with liver cancer,58 patients with liver cirrhosis and 60 patients with chronic hepatitis B.Meanwhile,60 HBV asymptomatic carriers were detected as control. Results Among 60 HBV asymptomatic carriers, the percentages of genotype B,C and D were 46.7%,33.3% and 20.0 % respectively.Among 60 chronic hepatitis B,the percentages of genotype B,C and D were 41.7 %,36.7% and 21.7 % respectively.Among the patients with liver cancer and liver cirrhosis, the percentages of genotype B were 33.9 % and 31.0%, genotype C were 60.7% and 63.8%, genotype D were 5.4% and 3.5%, respectively. Conclusion Genotype B is the main genotype in group of HBV asymptomatic carriers and chronic hepatitis B, and genotype C is the prevailing genotype in the patients with liver cancer and liver cirrhosis. The results suggests that genotype C may correlate to the development of liver diseases.
