Abstract

Objective To study the renal protective effects of benazepril in diabetic rats and its mechanisms. Methods 34 Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control(N),STZ-induced diabetic(DM) and benazepri-treated(DMB) groups. The levels of plasma glucose, serum cholesterol, serum creatinine, blood uria nitrogen, urinary albumin and the creatinine clearance rate were observed respectively at 12 w of treatment. The expressions of CTGF mRNA in diabetic rats were detected by RT-PCR technique. Results At 12 w,the levels of serum cholesterol, uria nitrogen, creatinine and urinary albumin excretion, creatinine clearance rate in DMB group were significantly lower than those in DM group(P0.01 or P0.05).The expression of CTGF mRNA in DMB group was significantly lower than that in DM group(P0.05).Conclusions Benazepril has some renal protective effects on diabetic rats. This might result from decreasing expressions of CTGF mRNA of kidney.
