Abstract
Objective: To study the reconstuctive methods for defects of bone and skin in medial malleolus during traumatic injury. Methods:Free iliac bone with a piece of fascial strip is incorporated with flap to reconstruct the deficits in medial malleolus both bone and soft tissue in one stage or by stages. Results: Such method proved to restore the stability and functions of ankle joint satisfactory. Normal medial rotation range without abnormal motion on articular surface level were restored even after 6 to 24 months follow-up. Conclusion: It is essential for ankle functions to keep integrity of both malleolus. Good stability and function of ankle joint are available by using iliac bone incorporating with flap transplantation to the defect of medial malleolus.
