Abstract

The open spaces within and around mangrove in Qi' ao Island of Zhuhai,Guangdong Province were investigated to estimate the effects of mangrove microclimate such as temperature and humidity on human comfort. From 8: 00 a. m. to 18: 00 p. m.everyday, the temperature and relative humidity in clearings within and around mangrove were measured simultaneously every10 minutes, continuously 3 days per month, and the measurement lasted for one year. Comparison of the daily and annual variation of climate factors between two sites was conducted. During the test, the temperature within the mangrove was lower than that around it,but the relative humidity was higher. In the mangrove, the daily temperature decreasing was in the range from 0. 6 ℃ to 2. 4 ℃with the mean value of 1. 3 ℃ in the average percentage of 3. 92%,while the daily humidity increasing was in the range from 4. 0%to 20. 7% with the mean value of 8. 0% in the average percentage of 12. 0%. Between two sites, the daily maximum difference values of temperature and relative humidity occurred at 14: 00 p. m.,while the annual maximum difference values occurred in August. According to calculation of temperature and humidity indices, the effects of mangrove microclimate on human comfort were proved.
