A Review of the Discussion on “Rewriting the History of Literature”

Since the “rewriting literary history” discussion was origniated by “Shanghai Literay Theory” in 1988, it has affected two fields: the modern Chinese literary research and the ancient literary study. When reviewing this profound-influenced discussion, we can divide it into three stages: the first stage (1988-1990) can be called initiation period, the second stage (1991-1995) is deepening period, and the last stage from 1996 to today can be called practice and reflection period.
