Abstract

Objective To study the essential points of differential diagnosis between chromophobe renal cell carcimoma and renal oncocytoma and to discuss the causes for misdiagnosis. Methods A retrospective analysis was made on clinical data of 2 patients with chromophobe renal cell carcimoma. Results Both patients were preoperatively diagnosed as benign neoplasm. Results of intraoperative frozen section examination demonstrated as renal oncocytoma but final pathological diagnosis of paraffin sections was diagnosed as chromophobe renal cell carcimoma. Conclusions Chromophobe renal cell carcimoma and renal oncocytoma have unique morphological features, and they shared similarity in immunophenotype.Differential diagnosis is based on their growth patterns, cytological features and imaging analysis.
