Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the effects and its possible mechanism of β-elemene on apoptosis of human osteosarcoma MG-63 cells.METHODS The different mass concentration of β-elemene treated the MG-63 cells in vitro, and the survival rate of MG-63 cells was measured by MTT,the apoptosis of MG-63 cells was detected by flow cytometry, and the expression of apoptosis-related protein was determined by immunofluorescence and Western Blot.RESULTS As compared with the control group, the survival rate of MG-63 cells treated with the β-elemene decreased significantly(P0.05),and the expression of apoptosis-related protein increased significantly(P0.01).CONCLUSION The β-elemene could induce apoptosis of human osteosarcoma MG-63 cells via a mitochondrial mediated pathway with the activation of both caspase-dependent and caspase-independent apoptotic pathways.
