Abstract
Objective To investigate the stress status in male nursing students of undergraduate course among different grades, and to understand whether there was any correlation between the stress level and coping style. Methods Using a self-designed stress-questionaire and simplified coping style questionnaire,96 male students from Qingdao University Medical College and Taishan Medical College were surveyed. Results There were 10 stressors commonly seen in the students, the differences between total stress and the mean scores of each dimension in different-grade students were significant(F=11.93,P0.01),the pressure in senior students was the highest, followed by the junior, the least stress was seen in the middle-grade ones. The coping styles usually used by them were through working, learning,or other activities, keeping an optimistic attitude.Negative coping style was positively correlated with the stress of the male students(r=0.529,P0.01),there was no significant difference between positive coping styles and pressure(P0.05). Conclusion The characteristics of the stress in different grades are different,as nursing educators, different measures aiming at different features of stress of different-grade male nursing students should be adopted accordingly to reduce their pressure.
