Abstract
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of endovascular embolization on the spinal arteriovenous malformations (SAVMs). Method Data of 88 cases with SAVMs who received the endovascular embolization with the silk suture combined with Ivalon or NBCA, were reviewed retrospectively. Results Complete obliteration of the AVMs were achieved in 84 of the 88 cases with SAVMs. Partial obliteration (60%~70%) of the AVM was obtained in 4 cases. The marked symptomatic improvement was experienced in 81 cases, of whom, 5 had improvement of myodynamia (from grade I or II to grade IV) after the embolization. The symptoms were unchanged in 7 cases. Conclusion The endovascular embolization is an effective and safe option for treatment of the SAVMs.
