Abstract

Objective To study the expression of the oral cancer suppressor gene HSP70 in squamous cell carcinoma and the relationship between the expression of HSP70 mRNA and tumor genesis and development. Methods The expression of HSP70 in 30 squamous cell carcinoma specimens and 20 normal oral mucosa specimens was detected by half quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).The correlation between the expression of HSP70 mRNA and the grade of the carcinoma was evaluated. Results The positive expression of HSP70 mRNA in squamous cell carcinoma was significantly increased and showed statistical difference as compared with normal oral mucosa(P0.01).The expression of HSP70 m RNA in squamous cell carcinoma was correlated to the grade of the oral squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusion HSP70 mRNA expression is positively correlated with the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma, and can serve as a molecular marker for diagnosis and prediction of squamous cell carcinoma. However, lower expression of HSP70 mRNA can not be considered as an early marker for diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma.
