Abstract
An effect of vegetation is as the additional resistance to the riverbed.A formula of equivalent Manning resistance coefficient for the open channel flow with vegetation was deduced in consideration of the secondary flow on the resistance of the vegetated area by an influence coefficient. The modified Manning formula was introduced to the water depth-averaged model to solve the non-symmetrical compound channel flow and rectangular channel flow. The computed velocities were in good agreement with the experiment data, indicating that the numerical model is valid for estimating the velocity distribution of the partially vegetated open channel. The results are useful for the cognition of the vegetation flow structure.
