Abstract
AIM: To compare the effects and adverse reactions of buspirone and diazepam in treating anxiety disorders. METHODS: Forty_five anxious patients were divided randomly into 2 groups: 23 patients (M 11, F 12, age 38±s 13 a) were treated with buspirone, 15 mg, po, tid for 4 wk; 22 patients (M 9, F 13, age 41±11 a) were treated with diazepam, 7.5 mg, po, tid for 4 wk. RESULTS: The total clinical effective rates were 87% for buspirone, and 90% for diazepam (P0.05). The adverse reactions in diazepam group was higher than in buspirone group. But this did not hinder the treatment because the adverse reactions were mild. CONCLUSION: Buspirone showed the same effects but less adverse reactions than diazepam.
