Abstract
The vulnerable regions have been researched as major issues in the field of sustainable development, which are also economic backward areas. In order to realize the sustanable development of these vulnerable regions, the development situation need to be comprehensively estimated. In this paper the farming and pasturing transitional areas of Northeast China, which are typical vulnerable regions, have been studied as a case. With the indicators, the status quo in model sites, such as Fuxin,Tongliao and Chifeng, has been evaluated and contrasted in the two different time periods. The key factors which have great effect on regional sustainable development have been analyzed. The results show that the state of the resources and environment is the key indicator for regional sustanable development, that economic development should raise the regional development capacity, and that the systems which consist of society, population, and technology are also of great importance for regional sustable development. On the basis of these, the authors put forwards some countermeasures for the sustainable development in the farming and pasturing transitional areas of Northeast China.
