Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effects of radiotherapy on the keloid in the chest wall after surgical intervention. Methods:The keloid in the chest wall was excis ed and direct suture or skin grafting performed in 210cases.The radiotherapy was applied at the third day post -operation or when the stitch was removed. The hardness of t he healed wound and normal skin was me asured using scar sclerometer pre -operation and 3,6,12and 36months post -operation.Results:In 1~3year' s following up,a satisfactory effect in154cases,obvious effect in 47cases and little effect in 9cases was achie ved in 210patients via radiotherapy after excision. The scar hardness examinations showed that t he scar hardness of the keloid skin wa s significantly higher than that of t he normal skin(P0.001)and also that of the healed skin at 3mo nth after operation(P0.05).The hardness of the healed skin decreased gradually to approach to that of the normal skin after excis ion of the keloid .Conclusion:Radiotherapy of the keliod in th chest wall after excision have a satisfactory result on the controlling of the recurring of the scar.
