The application status and the quality characteristics of reclaimed water

Objective:To study the current application status and the quality characteristics of reclaimed water.Methods:The spot investigation of eighty reclaimed water manufacturers in an area was carried out;Collection of reclaimed water produced by reclaimed water manufacturers for continuous water quality monitoring was accomplished.Results:It suggested that the main areas of application of the reclaimed water were residential areas,schools,hotels,restaurants and office buildings.The reclaimed water was mainly used for toilet flushing,greening,road spraying,landscaping,car washing,equipment cooling and part of the public area cleaning.The source of reclaimed water was domestic sewage.Chlorine disinfection was the primary disinfection of reclaimed water.Eleven physical and chemical quality characteristics analysis of reclaimed water indicated that except a few of poor water quality samples,the majority of reclaimed water samples could reach the water standard limits.Two microbiological indicators suggested that the microorganisms were the main influencing factors of reclaimed water qualities and it mainly related with the disinfection effects of reclaimed water production.Conclusion:Reclaimed water was mainly used for flushing and landscaping in residential areas,schools and other public places.The hygiene microorganism indicators of reclaimed water are still far from being satisfactory.
