Abstract

This paper describes the behaviors of pesticide in the plant root zone (soil layer) and the seepage zone(the unsaturated zone between the root zone of plant and the unconfined water table) separately and then simulated the behavior of the herbicide atrazine in the unsaturated zone of research area by the plant root zone model (PRZM). The results of the simulation showed that atrazine ,which has relatively small adsorption coefficient, long half-life periods of degradation and large solubility in the water, may sustain in the unsaturated zone for a long time . At the same time , under the condition of precipitation, the atrazine may seapage into the phreatic aquifer as a result of ground water pollution. Therefore, in order to prevent the pollution of atrazine in ground water, we should bring the atrazine under control in the unsaturated zone, and puts emphasis on it.
