On Luji's Lyric Poems

This thesis starts with a contradiction in the poems of Luji, a scholar in the Southern and Northern Dynasties: on the one hand, Luji quested for emotional expression in his poetry, but on the other, readers of later ages thought his poems lack of emotion. Based on a detailed study of his poems, this thesis reveals that although Luji himself attached great importance to emotion in his lyric poems, the deficiencies in his poems sui generis were quite clear. The contradictory state of his emotions and lack of value in his poems resulted in the overdue generalities as far as the contents of his poems are concerned. Luji's concept of poetry was conveying his sense and flavor by images. And in accordance with this mode of poem writing, sense and flavor definitely took precedence over creation, which indubitably affected the power of his poems.
