Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2,-9 in human esophageal cancer tissue

Abstract

Aim: To detect the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and -9(MMP-2,-9) in human esophageal cancer tissue. Methods: MMP-2,-9 mRNA and protein were examined using the method of immunohistochemistry,in situ hybridization, and RT-PCR in 41 cases of esophageal cancer. Results:The percentage of positive expression of MMP-9 in tumor cells(53.66%) was coincident with that in tumor tissue(80.49%), but the MMP-2 percentage in the cancer cells (9.76%) was significantly different from that in the cancer tissue(58.54%). Conclusion: It indicates that MMP-9 is secreated by cancer cells, while the MMP-2 is not.
