Abstract

Objective To analyze the low field intensity MRI features of patellar chondromalacia and manifestation of imagical stages. Methods 60 cases of patella femoral joint were taken transversal MRI scanning.42 out of them were diagnosed patellar chondromalacia. All of them were used several series of scan sequences and contrasted with conventional arthroscopy by stages. Results Patellar chondromalacia were divided into four stages. It showed dotted hypo-intensity in patellar cartilage in stageⅠ(4 cases) and the surface of cartilage was rough and became slim in stageⅡ(6 cases). While cartilage occurred obvious rough and had local deficiency in stage Ⅲ(14 cases) and in stageⅣ(18 cases) there had osseous cartilaginous defect and osseous fancies articularis to corrode, displays for the signal unusuality. The patellar cartilage was displayed more clear in GE than that in SE.Conclusion Low field intensity MRI has high value in diagnosing the early patellar chondromalacia.
