Clinical analysis of aseptic meningitis after the posterior fossa craniotomy

Abstract

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of aseptic meningitis after posterior fossa craniotomy.Method Retrospective analysis is made of the clinical characters and the treatment of 16 cases who suffered aseptic meningitis after the posterior fossa craniotomy.Results All the patients got fever,ranging from 37.5℃ to 40.1℃.Leukocyte count was(45~110)×106/L,CSF glucose concentration(2.2~3.9) mmol/L,bacterial culture is negative.All the cases were treated with dexamethasone injection,in whom 6 were treated with intermittent intrathecal injection,10 were undertaken lumber catheter drainage,16 cases were cured,of whom 14 were cured in hospital and 2 discharged and recovered without medical treatment within 4 months.Conclusions The patients got feverin 3 days after the operations.The leukocyte count in CSF increased,glucose concentration was normal,and bacterial culture was negative,by which the patients were diagnosed aseptic meningitis.The steroids therapy and cerebrospinal fluid drainage are the main therapeutic methods.
