Effect of climatic factors on growth of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica and Pinus tabulaeformis in the Maowusu Sandland

This paper is based on the investigation and analysis of the growth of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica and Pinus tabulaeformis in the Maowusu Sandland.Stepwise distinguishing analysis was conducted on selected climatic factors that might influence the growth of the two tree species.The results showed that the dominant climatic factors which influenced the growth of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica were annual rainfall of the previous year,≥10℃ accumulated temperature,and annual evaporation;the dominant climatic factors which influenced the growth of Pinus tabulaeformis were annual rainfall of the previous and current years.Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica in this area grew better than Pinus tabulaeformis,which shows stronger drought resistance.So climatic factors of this area are more suitable to the growth of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica.
