Abstract

Tolstoy is always groping for the meaning of life,not only in his novel but also in his real life.From Andre Pierre Leeuwen to Leeuheleetophe,it can be seen how Tolstoy gets out of the puzzle about life,and knows the way of life from searching for his soul's happiness to living for others.Tolstoy completes his groping at his old age by going out of his home. Russian people's asking for the meaning of life is revealed from Tolstoy's misery and puzzle during his life.
