Abstract
Objective To compare the analgesia effects between ropivacaine and lidocaine during functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and about 18-24 hours after the operation (first change of dressing). Methods Sixty patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Ⅰ-Ⅱ who were to undergoing elective FESS were randomly divided into 2 groups (30 patients in the ropivacaine group and another 30 in the lidocaine group). All the patients had routine general anesthesia followed by infiltration of either 1% ropivacaine HCl or 1% lidocaine for local anesthesia. Epinephrine (1︰200 000) was given with both local anesthetics. Data collected included blood pressure, heart rate and Fromme operation visual field scores. Visual analog scale (VAS) was used to compare the degrees of pain during the first time change of dressing after operation. The numbers of people who wanted rescue treatment (2% lidocaine) in the two groups were recorded. Results The blood pressure and heart rate were significantly decreased after operation in both groups (all P0.05),with no significant differences found between the two groups after operation (all P0.05). Operation visual field classes were similar between the two groups (P=0.16). The VAS level in ropivacaine group (2.6±1.4) was significantly lower than that in lidocaine group (3.5±1.6,P=0.021) during the first change of dressing after operation. The number of patients who needed rescue treatment in ropivacaine group (30.0%) was significantly less than that in lidocaine group (53.3%,P0.01).Conclusion Ropivacaine has a similar anaesthesia effect as lidocaine during FESS and has better postoperative analgesic effect.
