Abstract

Active equalization and passive equalization are the two charge modes of series connected battery packs.Active equalization can effectively extend cycle life of battery packs.Passive equalization is generally applied to valve-regulated lead-acid(VRLA)battery packs of Chinese electric bicycles.For series strings longer than 12 cells,or more than 24 V battery pack,passive equalization could not control every battery,so cycle life of a battery pack can not be extended by passive charge equalization.
