Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of urinary CA-50 measurement for the diagnosis bladder cancer. Methods Voided urine specimens were collected from 32 normal(healthy) individuals and 32 bladder cancer patients. The concentration of CA-50 in urine specimens was measured by immunoradiometricassy (IRMA).Results The mean urinary CA-50 level in patients with bladder cancer(65.8±54.2 U/ml) was significantly higher than that in normal control(8.8±5.1 U/ml)( P 0 001). Use 19.0 U/ml as a minium cot-off limit, the sensitivity and specificity of this assay to diagnose bladder cancer were 84.4%(27/32) and 96 9%, respectively. Conclusions .Urinary CA-50 assay is a simple, noninvasive method for the diagnosis of bladder cancer.
