Abstract

Objective To evaluate the ultrasonic appearance and the diagnostic value of ultrasound in vertebral artery stenosis. Methods Fifty - five patients with vertebral artery stenosis were examined by color Doppler ultrasound, the results were analyzed retrospectively and classified according to sonogram appearance. Results In 55 patients with vertebral artery stenosis, there were 16 cases of congenital hypoplasia,11 cases of intima thickening,20 cases of plaque stenosis,7 cases of occlusion and 1 case of extraneous compression. There was special appearance in color Doppler ultrasonography for vertebral artery stenosis. Conclusion Color Doppler ultrasound has high clinical value in diagnosis of vertebral artery stenosis,it also can provide accurate information for clinical diagnosis.
