Abstract
The red imported fire ant (RIFA), Solenopsis invicta Buren, is an important quarantine insect. Insecticide application is more effective for suppressing the population of red imported fire ants than other measures. Abamectin, chlorpyrifos, hydramethylnon and fenoxycarb as the active ingredient (a.i.) of bait are better than as the a.i. of other formulations for control of RIFA. The emulsifiable concentrate, soluble concentrate, aqueous solution, or otherwise, of pyrethroid, organophosphate and carbamate insecticides may be applied for liquid drench of individual mounds. The granule formulation of insecticides (e.g. chlorpyrifos) is used as the treatment of soil for the control of RIFA.
