Abstract

This paper describes how Quine's naturalism was developed from his persistent and enlightened adherence to the philosophical tradition of empiricism, and his naturalism as a result of his adherence to the tradition. It also presents the huge differences between Quine and the card-carrying pragmatists on the views of truth and of scientific culture. It concludes that Quine is a well-deserved empiricist due to his distinguished contributions, while pragmatism is an inadequate and misleading label.
