On the Status of English Grammar Teaching in Communicative Approach

The history of Grammar-Translation teaching method is over 140 years in our country,and thus shows the importance of grammar in learning English.But since the introduction of communicative approach,grammar teaching has been regarded as inappropriate and faced with the risk of being neglected.Especially when it comes to grammar teaching in colleges and universities,some people deliberately deny its importance and necessity.This paper explains the importance of grammar and its status in college English teaching from the historical,theoretical and practical perspectives,and comes up with some thoughts and methods about grammar teaching under the framework of communicative approach.
