Clan Names in the Politics of the Zhou Dynasty

Clan names emerged for specific reasons and developed in specific ways in the Zhou Dynasty.The extensive existence of clans led to the policy of uniting members from the same clan,respecting members from other clans and disdaining members from the concubine clans in the Zhou Dynasty.With the perfection of political system,such policies as entitling surnames by the emperor as well as no marriages in the same clan were gradually eliminated.Clan name policy of the Zhou Dynasty developed with the tendency of existing only as a matter of form and out of politeness.
