Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of traditional Chinese and western medicine on liver failure due to chronic hepatitis B.Methods Sixty-eight cases of liver failure due to chronic hepatitis B were randomly divided into two groups, with 33 in treatment group and 35 in control group. The control group was given combined modality therapy, including liver-protecting,symptomatic and supporting treatment. The treatment group,in addition to the same therapy as the control group, was given colon dialysis with 0.9% of sodium chloride solution and retention enema with the decoction of dahuang(Rheum officinale) and wumei(Prunus mume) at week 1 of treatment, and then switched to oral intake of Chinese herbal medicine. Results The total bilirubin and endotoxin levels in the treatment group decreased more significantly than those in the control group(P0.05).Blood coagulation parameters in the treatment group improved more significantly than those in the control group(P0.05).The occurrence rates of complications of the treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P0.05).The effective rate of the treatment group was 84.8%,significantly higher than that of the control group(51.4%)(P0.05).Conclusion Combined treatment of traditional Chinese and western medicine can improve the therapeutic efficacy on liver failure due to chronic hepatitis B significantly.
