Chuang Tzu's Ways of Argumentation in Constructing the Chinese Discourse

The relationship between Chuang Tzu's understanding of the essence of the world(i.e.,Tao),as well as his attitude towards language,and his three unique ways of argumentation(i.e.: zhi yan,the seemingly incoherent but actually most natural and true statements;chong yan,quotations from the learned and/or celebrated;and yu yan,parables),shows that the latter has had far-reaching impact on the tradition of Chinese discourse,and has played important roles in the shaping of Chinese cultural heritage.This marks an essential difference from the traditional and contemporary modes of discourse in the West.We should,therefore,try to rediscover the inherent cultural and discourse rules of Chinese and fulfill the cultural turn of discourse analysis in China,so as to construct a contemporary Chinese discourse in its truest sense.
