Abstract
According the radar data in the costal area, we analyze the characteristics of changing intensity of Meranti, the10th typhoon in 2010. Since it entered Taiwan Strait, it changed into a midget tropical storm from a week typhoon with asymmetrical structure. Its wide circulation collapsed quickly, and the tropical cyclones eyes tightened but looked clear. The entire typhoon keeps augmented, then stable, and then weakened. When locating typhoon by the analysis of costal radar data,we should pay much more attention to the variation in typhoon intensity. The way to define the intensity is to analyze the variation in typhoon convective system and the change of typhoon eye in spiral rain bands.
