Significance of the serum level of CRP in patients with COPD

Abstract

Objective To investigate the serum level of creactive protein(CRP) in the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)(including stable COPD and acute exacerbation of COPD,AECOPD).Methods The patients were taken 3 ml blood while they attended in the clinic or as they were admitted into the ward.Serum CRP levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.Results The serum CRP levels in the AECOPD patients were significantly higher than that in the stable COPD patients(P0.01),and the serum CRP levels in the dead AECOPD patients were significantly higher than that in the alive AECOPD patients(P0.001).Conclusion Elevated serum CRP is a predictor of exacerbation in the COPD patients,and extremely higher level of CRP may be the omen of sever condition with poor prognosis.
