On patriotism revealed in Lu You's work

Lu You is usually forgotten among the myriads of outstanding poets and uneven- lined poems (chi), the most influential form of literature of the Song Dynasty, and is generally remembered as a patriotic poet largely devoted to writing even- lined poems (shi). The present author, however, argues that his uneven-lined poems, though not many in number, are equally good as his even- lined poems, with the latter concentrating on his grief over unfulfilled wish to serve his country and dauntless loftiness, while the former concentration on his ambition to give his life valiantly on the battle field.
