Abstract

Systematic functional grammar and cognitive grammar are two important research perspectives in the research of modern linguistics. The former makes a study of human languages from the perspective of society, while the latter from the perspective of cognitive psychology for that matter.Although they have different perspectives in terms of research, they have many commonalities in the aspect of linguistic description. The two research approaches cannot make a plausible explanation of linguistic phenomena by being on their own.Only by the combination of the two approaches can a reasonable explanation be made for linguistic phenomena. The combining foundation should be stage model proposed by Langacker.
