Abstract
Objective: To investigate the differences in the ultrastructure and pathogenicity between Cladosporium cladosporioides and Cladosporium carrionii. Methods: A comparative study was made on the ultrastructural difference between Cladosporium cladosporioides and Cladosporium carrionii. Results: Some ultrastructural differences were observed between Cladosporium cladosporioides and Cladosporium carrionii. The cell walls of the former were obviously thickened, suggestive of their liability to aging. Conclusion: A good understanding of some biological characteristics of Cladosporium cladosporioides as differentiated from Cladosporium carrionii helps the diagnosis and treatment of phaeohyphomycosis and offers an explanation of the fact that Cladosporium cladosporioides have a weaker pathogenicity than Cladosporium carrionii.
