Abstract
Objective To assess the intestinal barrier function of the gut tumor patients who had received operation by studying the intestinal permeability. Methods The 16 gut tumor patients were enrolled. After ingestion mannitol and lactulose in de-ionized water before and after operation a week, a 6-hr urine collection was used to analyze their mannitol and lactulose concentration by gas-liquid phase chromatography. Results The lactulose concentration and lactulose/ mannitol (L/M) ratio was increased after operation(P0.01). Conclusion The intestinal permeability of the gut tumor patients is increased after operation. The operation of the gut tumor patients may induce their intestinal barrier dysfunction. Gas-liquid phase chromatography is a valid method of detecting the intestinal permeability.
