Observation on the antennal sensilla of Pieris rapae L. by scanning electronic microscope

The morphology of antennal sensilla of Pieris rapae L.adult were observed using scanning electronic microscope(SEM).The results showed that the antennal sensilla of Pieris rapae L.is rich in varleties and its distribution presents some regularity.There were six types of sensilla on the antennae of male and female butterflies,i.e.,sensillum trichoid,sensillum chaetic,sensillum squamiformia,sensillum styloconica,sensilla cavitica and sensilla rod-like.The sensillum chaotic,sensillum squamiformia,sensillum styloconica and sensilla rod-like have deep longitudinal grooves on their surface.
